GCAE and PTA Make it Happen! Join us Feb 15 for our Spring Campaign Launch!

Make It Happen Flyer

The Guilford County Association of Educators (GCAE) monthly Member Meeting is coming up on Thursday, February 15. Join us as we launch our spring Make it Happen! campaign. We will start with GCAE business at 5 pm and break for dinner at 6 pm as PTA and community members join us to find out how we can work together in 2018. RSVP here.

Our goals this spring are:

1. Win a Local Funding Increase:  We are asking the Guilford County Commissioners to fully fund Guilford County Schools budget request for the 2018/2019 school year . Local funding is approximately a third of our total funding. As funding from the NC General Assembly has decreased, these local funds are even more important! This year we are asking our Guilford County Commissioners to help us make it happen!

2. Repeal HB13 or Fully Fund the Class Size Mandate: It is time to #StopClassSizeChaos and bring some resolution to this bad legislation. Guilford County Schools had to spend $8 million this past year complying with the K-3 class size law and will need another $10 million in order to be in compliance for the coming year. We are telling the NC General Assembly to either fund or repeal this mandate. It’s not fair to students or staff to be put in this position

3. Support a NC School Construction Bond: More than half our school buildings are over 50 years old. The maintenance and repair on these buildings alone creates insurmountable costs at current funding levels. As we continue to grow, we will need extra funding to build the schools our students deserve. We support a school construction bond on the 2018 ballot and school construction funds in any federal infrastructure bill that may emerge.
