Important Updates for May 16

Whew. 29 NC School Districts closed on May 16th. Probably more when you read this.

You did it Guilford. Over 2,000 personal days logged.

We’re headed to Raleigh on May 16th.

As we move toward  the opening of the NC General Assembly, we’re going to have to delegate more responsibilities than usual. Please bear with us, things are moving at a rapid fire pace.

If you have questions about GCAE/NCAE membership or need a form, please contact GCAE Vice President, Amy Harrison.
If you are requesting a meeting, want to schedule interviews with GCS educators, or have other general questions about May 16th, please contact GCAE Secretary, Elizabeth Hackney. Please check the FAQ before emailing, but we can be reached at  gcaenc.gmail.com.

If you have questions or information to share regarding transportation from Guilford county, please contact our transportation Committee Chair Hollie Blake. The most up to date info we have received is up at https://may16.org/guilford/.

If you are a building leader from your school responsible for communicating with your school leading up to the event and during the course of the day, you should be in direct contact with our GCAE Organizing Chair, Leah Hendershot.

Although GCS students will not attend school on May 16, they will still have access to meals and can attend ACES. In addition, 16 district high schools will still administer the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition exam that day. The district implemented these updates after seeking input from school staff, parents and students. Details here.

Please plan to attend our meeting Saturday, the Mass Meeting Preparing Us for May 16th from 2-4 pm at Faith Community Church in Greensboro. It’s important that we convene, get up to date information, and fellowship together as we grow the spirit of unity needed to win, both for ourselves and our students. Invitation and details are here.

That’s all for now! Forward!

Todd Warren
President, Guilford County Association of Educators
